San Jose Internet Providers Explain Steps in Case of Microwave Mayhem

While microwave engineering has enabled high-speed internet access that is impervious to weather disturbances, a familiar everyday offshoot of this technology can prove rather problematic: the microwave oven. In many cases, the radiofrequency waves emitted by microwave ovens have been known to interfere with Wi-Fi connections.

According to Popular Mechanics’ Rachel Arndt, the microwave ovens and Wi-Fi routers use relatively the same band: 2.4 GHz. Although a working oven can contain most of the energy, some waves still manage to leak at around 28 milliwatts. Not enough to harm the human body though certainly capable of messing up your Wi-Fi connection.
